Who's next

Pick the next person without picking favourites

Spin the roster for a speaking order nobody can argue with. The wheel remembers who has already gone, so the same two people do not open every meeting.

The wheel

no-repeat on

Add names to the roster and the wheel appears here.

Random order

whole roster at once

One shuffled list for the whole meeting, so nobody has to spin between speakers.

Random pairs

one trio if odd

Useful for review buddies, pairing sessions and coffee chats.

Roster

The roster is shared with the standup timer, so names you add here show up there too.

Saved in this browser only. Everyone on the team keeps their own copy.

Why random beats alphabetical

Fair rotation beats alphabetical order. Go by name or by seat and the same people warm up every meeting while the same people always speak last, to a room that has already checked out.

The no-repeat memory is what makes it fair. Without it, random picking can land on one person three days running and skip somebody all week.

How to use it

Add the team to the roster once. It is saved in this browser and shared with the standup timer, so both tools work from the same list. Remove anyone who is gone for good; for a one-day absence it is easier to spin again or use the standup timer, which has an absent toggle.

Leave no-repeat on for meetings where everybody speaks. Each pick grays that name out on the wheel and takes it out of the draw until the round is done, which is the part that makes the rotation fair rather than merely random. When everyone has gone the wheel says so, and reset memory starts the next round.

Turn no-repeat off when you want a genuine coin flip every time, such as picking who takes an unplanned support ticket or who demos this week. There the point is that nobody can predict it, not that everybody gets a turn.

If spinning between speakers slows the meeting down, use random order instead. It gives you the whole list in one go, so you can read the next two names out and keep things moving. Random pairs splits the roster for review buddies or pairing, and adds one trio when the roster is odd rather than leaving someone out.

The wheel respects the reduced motion setting in your operating system. With it on, the spin animation is skipped and the pick is announced right away.

Frequently asked questions

How does no-repeat mode work?

Every name the wheel lands on is set aside for the rest of the round. Those names stay visible on the wheel but grayed out, and they cannot win again until everyone has had a turn. Reset memory clears the round, and turning the setting off ignores it entirely.

Is the wheel actually random?

The pick is drawn first from the names still eligible, then the wheel is rotated so it lands there. The animation follows the result rather than producing it, which is why the reduced motion path can skip straight to the announcement without changing anything.

Does the roster sync with the standup timer?

Yes. Both tools read and write the same saved list in this browser, so adding or removing a name in either place updates the other. Nothing leaves your device, so teammates on their own machines keep their own rosters.

What happens to the odd person out in random pairs?

With an odd roster the last group becomes a trio instead of a pair. Nobody sits out, and a group of three works fine for reviews and pairing as long as it is only one of them.
