What is Veterans Day?
Veterans Day is 11 November, the anniversary of the armistice that ended fighting on the Western Front in 1918 at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. The United States renamed Armistice Day in 1954 to honour all veterans; the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth keep the date as Remembrance Day. A brief experiment in the 1970s moved the American holiday to a Monday, and it was returned to the 11th in 1978.
The next one falls on Wednesday, 11 November 2026, and this page counts down to the midnight that starts it in whatever time zone your browser reports. For a date of your own, the deadline countdown takes any target and tracks progress against it.
