What is Christmas Eve?
Christmas Eve is 24 December, the day before Christmas. In much of Europe it matters more than the 25th: Germany, Poland, the Nordic countries and much of Latin America hold the main meal and open presents on the evening of the 24th. In English-speaking countries it is usually a working day that ends early. The countdown below runs to midnight at the start of the 24th, so it reaches zero a full day before Christmas morning.
The next one falls on Thursday, 24 December 2026, and this page counts down to the midnight that starts it in whatever time zone your browser reports. For a date of your own, the deadline countdown takes any target and tracks progress against it.
